The School Box, a locally owned and operated school supply company, raised over $12,500 for the Susan G. Komen Foundation through a combination of customer donations, employee contests and company matched funds. Of the 14 retail locations scattered throughout Metro Atlanta and Tennessee, the Douglasville store was the most successful with over $1,700 collected alone. "We are still so overwhelmed by the generosity of our customers," bragged Donna Demkowski, store Manager.
"I don't know who to be more proud of," said Christine Persson, owner of The School Box, "our Associates for their enthusiasm and dedication or our customers for their wonderful support." The check was presented to Ashley Stiles, a representative of the the Susan G. Komen Foundation on November 13th at our Howell Mill location.
Although The School Box has taken advantage of October's Breast Cancer Awareness Month to collect funds in years past, this year's campaign has been the most successful to date. Customers were encouraged to donate $1 by purchasing cards adorned with a pair of pink boxing gloves. This theme was carried throughout the company's website and through a whole host of "pink" merchandise whose net proceeds benefited other breast cancer awareness organizations including City of Hope.
"We are a company primarily of women and we support an industry [education] made up of primarily women. This is a personal cause for us and one that we are very proud to support," explained Persson. "Although we are still overwhelmed by the outpouring from our customers, especially in light of these hard economic times, we shouldn't be surprised. After all, the most generous people I know are teachers."
